Looking up
I was leaving Safeco Field yesterday after making some photos at Fanfest and ran into another photo opportunity. As I was waiting for the light to change so I could legally cross the street I looked up and saw a man on a rope working on a light bellow a sign. It didn’t look like he had any other way off the rope other than climbing back up, so I put a longer piece of glass on my camera and waited a few minutes as he finished with the light and began to climb.
I made several frames, and to be honest, I don’t know which I like more. I have included four frames here so you can see what I was thinking. I tried to make frames with the man in several places so I could make the decision in the edit. I like the way the large figure in the sign is juxtaposed to the small figure, but I wish there was some interaction between them.

My turn…
Did Ingrid mention it was cold out there today? I mean like Kansas cold. The first few minutes wasn’t bad as we made photos on the field. I think the air must not move as much down there as it does in the stands.
We headed up to Seattle earlier than we needed to so that we could check out Pike Place Market.
As odd as it may sound, we had never been there together, so it seemed like a good idea. Ingrid took me to the first Starbucks where we both got a coffee and then moved on to a Russian pastry shop for a piroshky..mmmm, tasty!
It was a busy morning of shooting and driving. Here are the photos I posted at tribnet.com
As we left Safeco Field we saw a guy working on a massive sign on the side of the building across the street. We waited a bit for the right moment to make a photo and then headed to mom’s house for tacos and Wii golf. Good times!

The original sign. (please note the name of the company has changed)

(This is a second or so after Ingrid’s photo of the kid with the funny hat running at her.)

Us in the Seattle Mariners training room. After many miles at the Y in Tacoma just a few minutes in this gym made me weaker and slower…my vision got worse, too. Maybe the Mariner’s problems are all medical!
The gift shot on the way out.
Later.

All about the fans…
Today I went up to Seattle with Joe to take random and artsy pictures of the Mariner’s baseball FanFest at Safeco Field. The event is basically the Mariner’s way of giving fans a chance to see what life on the diamond is like. It also seemed like a major marketing ploy to sell season tickets. All in all, it was pretty fun – despite some frigid temperatures.
Hoops and a dream camera
I borrowed a Nikon D-3 from Rose the other day and used it to shoot the eagles. I ran out of time to get it back to her Friday so I held it for the weekend. I shot some high school basketball with it last night. I love this camera! I shot most of the game at 3200 ISO (I wouldn’t have done that with any other camera I’ve ever shot!) and it looks like 800 ISO on my camera. The images are sharp and hold up well. I want one so bad…
Here are some of the pics.

Capitol Forest for a day
While Joe was out in search of eagles, I spent the afternoon wandering about the Capitol Forest near Olympia, Wash., with fellow members of my Ecological History class as part of a field trip. Our first stop was the beaver pond at McLane Creek Nature Trail – where we looked for signs of beaver and came upon the remnants of a chum salmon spawning ground. After that, we headed over to the Mima Mounds – which as of yet is an unsolved “geological” mystery. (Click on the above link for more info.)

While Ingrid was in class today, I spent the day driving up to the Skagit River and photographed eagles for work. It was a good time…but so cold. The sky was clear and the day wasn’t really that cold except for the wind as we cruised up the river at 30 knots.
It seems that the Upper Skagit Eagle Festival is in a few days, so we went up to do a story. The odd thing was that the peak eagle season is in December and since most of the salmon are gone now…so are most of the eagles. Thanks to Wayne. our guide, we found a few and even made some pics.
I’ll save the rest for later since were are watching a movie now.
Hope you all are well.

Our vows – stylized!
While goofing around on the net today, I found this fantastic site where you can paste a block of text into a window and something magical comes out in the form of copy art. I put our wedding vows in and this is what happened: (my vows to Joe are on top of his to me)

27 Holes of golf…and no pain
We got out yesterday and played 27 holes of golf…18 at Steilacoom and then we moved over to The Jerome Private Course for 9 holes of Wii golf with Neil.
After the last family day at Byron and Cheryl’s house Neil decided he wanted to have one.
We got to play the front-9 at Pebble Beach on the ‘09 Tiger Woods game It was a blast.
My first 18 holes since the surgery went well. I had a few good shots, including a chip in to save par on number 6 and a 30-foot put on number 17. Ingrid also had some great shots, mostly off the tee. She was crushing her driver!

Visit us…
Like Dan and Tracy did.

Our friends came down from Everett last night and joined us for dinner. This is us geeking out a bit while Ingrid ran off to an assignment. (Yes, they brought their own laptops!!) I think we will go see some sights in a bit. more photos to follow.
